Privacy Folder

Class: Higher Level IB Design Technology
School Year: Senior Year High School

The project's aim is to create a beneficial product, with scale varying from small to large. With this, I took it to look at a school setting specifically.

The process was a term-long project, ensuring I went in-depth into exploring all the parts of manufacturing a product.

I created a privacy folder with the aim to be sold at a large scale to schools and for personal use.

Brainstorming Stage

I thought of test-taking moments and the constant frustration teachers would get over the folders falling. With this, I also linked to students who got frustrated over the lack of private space.

Anthropometrics

Testing multiple users in front of a measured panel, helped me gain insight into the average measurements across students in my school.

Specifics

Creating an Orthographic helped me with gaining insight into the total cost of materials, allowing me to budget.

Gantt Chart

With following a schedule this allowed me to be on time with what I needed to do and also trained me for how it would be like if a client gave me an amount of time to design a single product.

Mapping Mass Production

Creating a chart on how this product would be manufactured if mass produced help with understanding each section of the production process and valuing what process needs more attention than others.

Cutting & Stitching Guide

I created a cutting and stitching guide that would allow a production team to gain further insight into how the product would be assembled exactly.

Testing

Each compartment was tested before laying down the permanent hold onto both leather panels. This ensured everything worked before permanently setting anything.

Process

Making the prototype started with the details onto the base panel before stitching the back and front panel onto the wooden supports.

Final Design

The final visual was done on Fusion 360 to have a clean and crisp concept of what the actual product would look like. The render made tweaking easier to perfect a mass-produced batch. (Render re-done in first-year college for a cleaner look)
