On-The-Rush Face Palette

Class: Design Studio 3
School Year: Junior

While exploring the various bodies of makeup palettes I found myself searching for an issue to particularly focus on when designing these palettes.

With this I went into designing  face palette that is focused for the "on-the-go" customer - someone who puts makeup on in the car or while on commute.

The On-The-Rush Face Palette explores portability, function and ergonomics to create not only a beautiful palette but a highly functional one too.

Initial Ideas

I interviewed various avid makeup users on what they tend to struggle with when putting on makeup - specifically in terms of packaging. This led to the six main areas I ended up focusing on when designing my final palettes.

Portability was important as the focus of being on-the-go was a target for this specific line. Compact would ease the user when having to take this multi-purpose palette with them. Versatility gave the palette more function than just one product. Sturdy to be able to withstand moving in a bag and possibly being dropped. Comfort is necessary when having to be able to grip the product when moving. Lastly leak-proof or at least if the makeup shatters it won't get all over one's bag.

The Slider

The palette comes with interchangeable pans that can be placed into the palette and changed with another pan.

The Fan

A body swipes in a circular motion, laying out all the layers to use. The thin body helps with fitting it into a purse much easier.

The Stackers

This allowed the layers to be stacked on top of each other with the help of magnets.

The Cycle

A rotating body that allows the makeup to be seen and used by a rotating motion.

Final Design

Rotating Layers

The layers are each revealed when the layer is rotated through a knob on the side of the body. Each layer is targeted for a different part of the face.

Minimalistic Body

The body displays a light pink body with engraved text on the top of the mirror. The smooth curves and sleek edges help with a soft and easy grip.

Multi-purpose

The knob on the sides helps switch from layer to layer easily and strain-free. The snapped in layers make the palette more secure, ensuring it will stay in place
