Kamesa

Class: IB Business
School Year: Highschool Senior

The basis to pitch a business idea of a product was given in which I came up with the "Kamesa". The word "Kamesa" is a combination of two Tagalog words "Kama" (bed) and "Mesa" (table).

The idea sparked of creating a multipurpose furniture piece for low-income households who can't normally afford multiple furniture pieces.  The design would incorporate as much furniture living necessities into one whole piece- essentially being all you would need in a living space.

Brainstorm Sketch

The initial idea was getting multiple functions out into the concept. I knew the focus was to be multipurpose but what exactly were the most necessary pieces in a living space. This explored not only function but form- thinking of how it will all piece together as one whole.

Orthographic

The orthographic serves as an idea of the scale of the piece and what it caters to. I used 175.26 centimeters as a basis for human metrics to serve as the boundaries for the length and width of the sleeping area. This also helped create a standard as the piece is to be produced in bulk and not custom made for pricing constraints (aim to make this as affordable as possible)

Final Concept

The final concept includes two components- the top area for sleeping and the bottom for both living space and eating area. The piece contained all the necessary living needs from a table to eat on and study on, a bed area with storage for books and trinkets, lighting above to help at night, closet space, more storage under the seating area, and storage for shoes as well.

Final Design

The final design for showcase is a render to fully visualize the design. This includes a slide-out base to serve as the storage and work/dining space with the table. The top area is the sleeping and extra storage space platform.

In Detail

The final design would alternate between dark wood and light wood to give the piece depth. The choice of darker wood on the steps would make them more visible than blend in. This would also be the same wood for the shelves and chair.
